Home Brew Contest

Also new this year is a Home Brew contest sponsored and organized by Robert Carlton of Brew Depot, a home brew supply store located in Alpharetta. John Roberts, head brewer at Max Lager’s, Kevin McNerney, head brewer at 5 Seasons Brewing Company and Phil Farrell, a Grand Master BJCP Judge (one of only 100 master judges in the country) will be judging the Best of Show beers at the festival. Awards will be announced at the festival.

–The only person ever to judge all three commercial barleywine Best of Shows, both national homebrew contest Best of Shows, the Great American Beer Festival and the Grandaddy of them all the Great Brittish Beer Festival in the same calendar year.

Suwanee Beer Fest is proud to announce our partnership with Brew Depot to bring you the 1st annual Suwanee Beer Fest Home Brew Competition. The competition is open to all beer categories and will be judged per BJCP guidelines.

        • Competition will be BJCP sanctioned
        • Judging of the beer categories will be conducted as per the BJCP guidelines
        • Competition will be open to all BJCP Beer categories (not meads and ciders)
        • Competition will be limited to 200 entries
        • Entry fee $10 (All proceeds go to Kingdom Kids)
        • All entries will receive a $5 Brew Depot Bucks coupon redeemable at Brew Depot
        • All Brewer’s score sheets available for pickup at the festival
        • Best of Show judging will be conducted at the festival by Certified and National Beer Judges
        • Winners of each category and the best of show will be announced at the festival
        • Great prizes and ribbons awarded to winning beers (1st, 2nd & 3rd place)

The following are important dates associated with the competition:

1/30/12: Open date for on-line registration.
3/1/12: Beers may be received via mail or dropped of at Brew Depot.
3/14/12: Last day to receive entries at drop off locations.
3/24/12: Home brewing competition judging of entries.
3/31/12: Home brewing Best of Show judging and awards ceremony at Suwanee Beer Fest.
